Company Bio:

Our client is a private civil engineering consulting firm based in Los Angeles with over 20 years of proven success in delivering infrastructure, transportation, and land development projects. Known for their technical expertise and client-focused approach, they are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and mentor their team of engineers and help drive continued excellence in service delivery and project execution.

Compensation:

  • Base salary of $230,000
  • Bonus structure
  • 3 weeks of vacation

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the engineering department, managing a team of seven engineers.
  • Provide technical leadership across multiple civil engineering projects, ensuring quality control, regulatory compliance, and adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Collaborate with clients, government agencies, and internal teams to deliver innovative, cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Lead the development of proposals, project scopes, and engineering plans for both new and ongoing projects.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing technical insight and fostering client relationships.
  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level engineers, promoting continuous professional growth and team development.
  • Ensure that all engineering activities meet company standards, industry best practices, and applicable codes and regulations.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, engineering reports, and construction specifications.
  • Monitor and improve department efficiency, workflow, and project delivery processes.
  • Represent the firm in client meetings, public hearings, and industry events as required.

Qualifications:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California is required.
  • Extensive experience in civil engineering, with demonstrated success in project management and team leadership.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop engineering teams in a fast-paced consulting environment.
  • Strong understanding of California state and local engineering codes, permitting processes, and infrastructure regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and cross-functional teams.
  • Strategic thinker with a strong sense of accountability and operational efficiency.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
