With a long-standing reputation for excellence in building and permitting services, they are seeking a Senior Building Inspector to lead and support a dedicated team. This leadership role plays a vital part in upholding regulatory standards and fostering a collaborative, accountable team environment.

Compensation:

  • Base salary of $105,000
  • 3 weeks of vacation

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of nine building inspectors and examiners, ensuring high-quality service delivery and compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Provide mentorship, training, and daily guidance to staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and assign inspection workloads, ensuring timely completion of permit reviews and site inspections.
  • Review complex plans, permits, and inspections for residential, commercial, and industrial developments.
  • Liaise with architects, engineers, contractors, and property owners to resolve issues and ensure compliance with applicable bylaws and building codes.
  • Act as a subject matter expert and provide interpretation of building codes, safety standards, and zoning regulations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development for all team members.
  • Assist in developing and refining internal procedures and inspection protocols.
  • Prepare reports, provide updates to senior leadership, and attend meetings related to building safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Represent the organization professionally in public and stakeholder meetings when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in building inspection, plan review, or construction, preferably in a municipal or regulatory environment.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to supervise and develop a high-performing team.
  • In-depth knowledge of building codes, regulations, and zoning bylaws.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage stakeholder relationships effectively.
  • Certification through the Building Officials’ Association or equivalent is strongly preferred.
  • BOABC Level 2 or Level 3 and Plumbing certification are considered strong assets.
  • Proficiency in using permitting and inspection software systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for site visits.
