Company Bio:
Our client is a highly regarded and prestigious restaurant group based on Vancouver Island, known for their high-end dining experiences and exceptional reputation in the industry. As they continue to expand, they are creating a new position for a Director of Finance to join their leadership team. This role will initially be a one-person operation with the responsibility to build out a finance team as the department grows. Reporting directly to the President, the Director of Finance will have the unique opportunity to shape the financial strategy of the company while working closely with operations across multiple restaurant locations, including occasional travel to Vancouver.
Compensation:
- Base salary of $135,000
- 10% annual bonus
- 3 weeks of vacation
- CPA licensing dues covered
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the financial strategy for the restaurant group, aligning with the company’s vision and growth objectives.
- Manage all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis, as the sole finance person initially.
- Build and expand a finance team as the company grows, recruiting and mentoring staff to support the department’s functions.
- Oversee HR functions, including payroll and employee compensation, ensuring compliance and accuracy in all processes.
- Ensure tax compliance, managing all reporting in accordance with Canadian tax regulations.
- Conduct regular financial reviews and prepare detailed reports for the President, providing insights and recommendations.
- Perform cost analysis and develop strategies to optimize profitability across restaurant locations.
- Ensure all financial practices comply with industry standards, government regulations, and company policies.
- Work closely with restaurant general managers to provide financial guidance and support operational decision-making.
- Travel periodically to Vancouver to engage with restaurant teams and maintain an understanding of operational needs and challenges.
Qualifications:
- CPA designation is required.
- Proven experience in a senior financial role, preferably within the hospitality or restaurant industry.
- Strong knowledge of tax regulations and HR-related financial functions.
- Excellent analytical skills, with a strategic mindset for financial planning and growth.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships with both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience in building and managing teams is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
