Our client, based in Toronto, is a forward-thinking technology company dedicated to tackling one of the most pressing environmental issues: food waste. Their innovative app is designed to assist both consumers and businesses in reducing food waste through smart tracking of expiration dates, recipe suggestions based on available ingredients, and streamlining food donations. As they continue to grow and make a significant impact, they are seeking a Chief Technology Officer who will be instrumental in advancing their mission, reporting directly to the CEO.

Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and execution of the company’s technological strategy, focusing on the app’s capability to reduce food waste effectively.
• Oversee the app’s entire development lifecycle, ensuring robust, scalable, and user-friendly design.
• Collaborate with the CEO and other executive team members to align the technology strategy with the company’s goals.
• Manage and expand a team of developers, engineers, and IT professionals, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
• Stay abreast of emerging technology trends and integrate them into the app to enhance functionality and user experience.
• Develop and maintain a secure, resilient technological infrastructure that supports the app’s growth and user base.
• Facilitate the integration of advanced algorithms, including machine learning and AI, to optimize app features such as expiration tracking and recipe suggestions.
• Oversee the development of a platform that enables efficient food donations between users and organizations.
• Build partnerships with technology providers, stakeholders, and other relevant entities to enhance the app’s capabilities and reach.
• Ensure the app complies with all relevant laws and regulations, particularly regarding data privacy and security.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in a CTO role or similar leadership position in the technology sector, preferably within the app development space.
• Strong background in developing consumer-facing mobile applications, with a focus on usability and user engagement.
• Expertise in AI, machine learning, and data analytics, with the ability to apply these technologies in practical, user-oriented solutions.
• Excellent leadership and team-building skills, with experience managing diverse and dynamic tech teams.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Passion for environmental sustainability and reducing food waste, with the ability to translate this passion into technological solutions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Innovative and strategic thinker, with a track record of delivering successful technological solutions.
