Our client is an established e-commerce company specializing in premium, small-batch home coffee brewing equipment, a niche it has come to dominate through a strong focus on product craftsmanship and a highly engaged customer community. The company has built a loyal following among coffee enthusiasts and has grown steadily by combining a differentiated product line with a technology platform built to support that specialization at scale. As the business continues to mature and expand its digital capabilities, it requires an experienced Chief Technology Officer to own the technical vision and lead the organization’s engineering function. This Chief Technology Officer role reports directly to the CEO and plays a critical part in shaping the company’s platform, infrastructure, and long term technology strategy as it enters its next stage of growth.

Compensation

  • Base salary of $230,000 to $270,000.
  • Performance bonus of up to 25%.
  • 3 weeks of vacation.

Responsibilities

  • Own the company’s overall technology strategy and roadmap in alignment with business goals.
  • Lead and scale the engineering organization, including hiring, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Partner directly with the CEO and executive team on technology decisions that support company growth.
  • Oversee the architecture, reliability, and scalability of the e-commerce platform and supporting systems.
  • Drive engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, deployment, and infrastructure standards.
  • Manage technical risk, including system security, data protection, and platform uptime.
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and tools that improve platform performance and customer experience.
  • Own the technology budget, including infrastructure costs, tooling, and team resourcing.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key technology vendors and partners.
  • Establish clear engineering processes and communication cadences across the organization.
  • Represent the technology function to the board and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Anticipate future scaling needs and proactively address technical debt and infrastructure gaps.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in a senior engineering leadership role, including prior experience as a CTO or VP of Engineering.
  • Proven experience scaling engineering teams and platforms at a growing company.
  • Strong background in e-commerce platforms, infrastructure, and architecture.
  • Proven ability to partner directly with a CEO and executive team on strategic decision making.
  • Strong understanding of system security, data protection, and platform reliability at scale.
  • Excellent leadership and team development skills.
  • Strong budget management and resource planning experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience evaluating and implementing new technologies to support business growth.
  • Comfort operating in a fast paced, evolving business environment.
