Company Bio:

Our client is an innovative urban farm company based in New York City, revolutionizing the way communities access fresh produce through sustainable agricultural practices. As they expand their operations and continue to integrate into urban environments, they require a Chief Compliance Officer to ensure adherence to local regulations and government standards. This role will report directly to the CEO and play a crucial role in navigating the complex regulatory landscape that impacts urban farming.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee the company’s compliance programs, ensuring all operations adhere to legal standards and internal policies, particularly those related to urban agriculture.
  • Work closely with local regulators, government bodies, and other stakeholders to maintain compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Advise the CEO and other key executives on compliance matters, including potential risks and strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Implement risk management strategies to identify, assess, and address compliance issues that could impact the company.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on compliance activities, findings, and investigations to the CEO and board members.
  • Conduct or oversee regular internal reviews and audits to ensure that compliance procedures are followed.
  • Organize training sessions for staff to increase awareness and understanding of compliance issues and practices.
  • Stay updated with changes to legislation and regulatory rulings that affect the urban farming industry.
  • Lead the response to any regulatory inquiries or investigations, including those from local or state governments.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with regulatory bodies and local government entities.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Chief Compliance Officer or similar compliance role, preferably within the agriculture, environmental, or related sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of the regulatory landscape in New York City, especially as it pertains to agriculture, environmental impact, and land use.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and compliance best practices.
  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of effectively negotiating and interacting with regulators and government officials.
  • Strategic thinker with a strong analytical mindset and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Administration, Environmental Science, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in compliance are highly advantageous.
