Our client is a private family business investment firm based in New York that deploys capital across investment projects and debt opportunities involving micro cap and small cap companies. The firm works directly with ownership on sourcing, evaluating, and advancing opportunities where disciplined underwriting, sound judgement, and strong market instincts matter. This role reports directly to the CEO and has been created to lead origination, research, screening, and execution support across the firm’s investment activity.

Compensation

  • Base salary of $190,000 to $230,000.
  • Bonus program to be developed in partnership with the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Identify micro cap and small cap companies that may be suitable for debt investments, structured capital, or broader investment opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of actionable opportunities across priority sectors, themes, and markets.
  • Conduct market research, company screening, and investment analysis to support new investment ideas and capital deployment decisions.
  • Evaluate opportunities based on capital structure, downside protection, management quality, cash flow profile, and strategic fit.
  • Prepare internal investment summaries, market briefs, and company profiles for review by the CEO.
  • Support underwriting and diligence across prospective debt investments and special situations.
  • Build relationships with founders, management teams, brokers, intermediaries, lenders, and other market participants to generate proprietary deal flow.
  • Monitor public and private market activity relevant to smaller capitalization companies and identify emerging opportunities early.
  • Track active opportunities with discipline and maintain clear reporting on pipeline status, diligence progress, and next steps.
  • Coordinate with external advisors, legal counsel, and financial counterparties as opportunities move forward.
  • Assist with structuring discussions, term evaluation, and execution support as transactions progress.
  • Represent the firm professionally in market outreach and confidential deal related conversations.
  • Operate with strong independence, commercial judgement, and a high level of discretion in a lean environment.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in capital markets, private credit, investment banking, corporate development, private equity, or a related investment role.
  • Direct experience evaluating investment opportunities, debt structures, or smaller company financing situations.
  • Strong understanding of micro cap and small cap companies, including the risks and opportunities associated with less liquid and less institutionalized businesses.
  • Ability to assess business quality, capital needs, downside scenarios, and investment fit with sound judgement.
  • Strong financial analysis and research capability, including review of financial statements, transaction materials, and market data.
  • Experience preparing investment memos, summaries, and decision support materials for senior leadership.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage credibly with business owners, executives, lenders, and advisors.
  • Comfort working directly with a CEO in a highly entrepreneurial and fast moving environment.
  • High level of discretion, maturity, and follow through.
  • Ability to manage multiple live opportunities at once without direct team support.
  • Experience in special situations, structured capital, private credit, or opportunistic investing is a strong asset.
